| | Tears, smiles at Ed Bradley funeral | |
Nearly 2,000 people fill the stately Riverside Church to pay tribute to the CBS newsman. With the complicated melodies of the music he loved so much surrounding them, family and friends of Ed Bradley said good-bye to the 60 Minutes correspondent Tuesday with a three-hour service filled with life, love, and laughs. Nearly 2,000 people filled the stately Riverside Church on the edge of the Hudson River to pay tribute to Bradley, who died November 9 at age 65. They came from the wide spectrum of Bradley's life: from his youth as a Philadelphia sixth-grade math teacher, to his early days at CBS Radio and covering the Vietnam War, to his friends in jazz and other music and the many people he came in contact with as a globe-trotting correspondent. "He came on the scene in one of the most exciting times in American history, and he embraced what Oliver Wendell Holmes called 'the action and passion of his times,"' said Charlayne Hunter-Gault, who traveled from her home in Africa to be with Bradley in his final days. "He was, after all, the jazz master," said former President Clinton, one of the many interview subjects whom Bradley disarmed with his manner. "He always... | |
| | Bad Teachers! | | I had one teacher who told the entire class that i would be the "garbageman", as that was what happened (he said) to students who didn't do their homework. In fact i was regularly scolded in front of this and other classes, ususally for now doing homework but sometimes for not doing something for which i wasn;t reponsible. One teacher watched and didn't say anything to fellow student put a thumb back on my chair. I fortunately missed sitting on the tack and the whole class started at me waiting for my reaction. I am still amazed by today. (this was the 12th grade math class, not in grade school as you might expect. ) i was lousy student but even still... | |
| | what curricullum do you use for home schooling? | | I am pulling my daughter from public school she is advanced and the school won't teach her at her level so instead of leaving her sitting idle I'm going to teach her myself. It is very overwhelming with all the homeschooling info out there.
Can you please share what books you use for the different subjects?
My daughter is in first grade by age but doing end of 2nd grade math and reading at a 2nd or 3rd grade level.
Thank you | |
| | Your Worst Teacher | | My worst teacher was my 5th grade Math teacher. I was already bad at Math but if we got a problem wrong she made everyone feel like an idiot. One day as I was leaving the classroom my backpack hooked onto this filer on her desk. The filer and all papers in it crashed to the floor. She yelled at me and I remember being so embarrassed. I missed a lot of school that year. Out of my 5 teachers 3 of them where kind of hateful like that. I don't think teachers realize the impact that their attitude has on students. | |
| | HomeWork blues! | | Kids came home from school about 4pm. We started in on homework. We did Teresa's first. She is a first grader. Then Jarod's was next. He is a 3rd grader. It is 7:45PM. They had lots of homework. Most of it was late but I made them do it anyway. Here is where I would like some advice. How long should homework really take? Should I make them do the past work? And am I the only one who gets a migraine after trying to do 1st and 3rd grade math? Like I really now how many termites will go into a 15 CM space and a 30 MM space. | |
| | Favorite Teacher | | Who was your favorite teacher. My favorite teacher was an 8th grade math teacher who taught at Gladewater High School in Gladewater, Texas. She was killed in a car accident this past year. I will miss her greatly. She was about 90 years old. She was such an inspiration to me. Her husband was an inspiration to my brother. They lived on a farm and he was the AG teacher at Gladewater. They were pillars of the community. They were always optimistic and upbeat. She was still going about doing for others. That was her way of giving. And I could drop in on her at anytime and she always had time for me. She never seemed to mind when I would suddenly show up on her doorstep without any notice. I know she was this way with all who came to see her as she did the same for my brother. She and her husbadn were such kind hearted souls. They will be greatly missed by all who knew them. | |
