| | Expel These Teachers | | New York City public school teacher Wayne Brightly did not belong in a classroom. He was the kind of guy New York State had in mind when it decreed that all its teachers had to pass certification tests by 2003. These would measure the instructors' basic skills in English, reading and math, their understanding of teaching techniques, and their expertise in the subject they teach. You might say that when put to the test, Brightly did dumbly. He flunked twice, which got him nervous. So the middle school teacher reportedly had his old friend Rubin Leitner use a fake ID and take the test for him. Even though Leitner was no Einstein himself -- he has a history of mental problems and had once been homeless -- he scored far better on the test than Brightly ever did. The sudden improvement was enough to draw the suspicion of state officials, who uncovered the scam. | |
| | high school courses? rendundant? | | many times throughout the day i realize how bored i am in my classes. much of this kind of thinking occurs when i am in english reading a boring book or poem. for those of you who like english, i would like to ask why? and for those of you who dont, i also would like to ask why? i dont like it for several reasons, one: my high school requires four years of english to graduate. two, my teachers, or many of the english teachers, are very one sided about the opinions you can have on a peice of liturature. it seems to me that whatever stand i may take on a book it is never the right one. as proof of this i recieved a "C" on my last essay because of the ideas i put forth. third it seems as though i never learn anything new in that class, try as i might i still never learn anything past what i learned in 8th grade english. last and certainly not least, i find that i will not be pursuing and carrer that works with liturature, so why should i have to take it when i could be taking math and science courses. there you have it, four reason why i think english should be eliminated from high school curriculum. | |

| | the independent spirit:about jane eyer | | This is a story about a special and unreserved woman who has been exposed to a hostile environment but continuously and fearlessly struggling for her ideal life. The story can be interpreted as a symbol of the independent spirit. It seems to me that many readers’ English reading experience starts with Jane Eyer. I am of no exception. As we refer to the movie “Jane Eyer”, it is not surprising to find some differences because of its being filmized and retold in a new way, but the spirit of the novel remains----to be an independent person, both physically and mentally.Jane Eyer was a born resister, whose parents went off when she was very young, and her aunt, the only relative she had, treated her as badly as a ragtag. Since Jane’s education in Lowwood Orphanage began, she didn’t get what she had been expecting——simply being regarded as a common person, just the same as any other girl around. The suffers from being humiliated and devastated teach Jane to be persevering and prize dignity over anything else.As a reward of revolting the ruthless oppression, Jane got a chance to be a tutor in Thornfield Garden. There she made the acquaintance of lovely Adele and that garden’s owner,... | |
| | my english reading experience | | "It seems to me that many readers."English reading experience starts with Jane Eyre.I am of no exception. There are some words that I never forget in the book.It is showed that:If God had gifted me with some beauty and much wealth,I should have made it as hard for you to leave me,as it is now for me to leave you,I am not talking to you now through the medium of custom, conventionalities, nor even of mortal flesh:It is my spirit that addreses yourspirit;just as if both had we stood at God's feet,equal--as we are! | |
