Children and car safety
Lots of families live in the city and do not own a car. They must use public transportation... but there are no car seats in taxis or buses. How do they get around?

Baby Car Seats: Which brand is the best?
What brand do you use, why did you choose that one? Would you reccommend it?Which brand do you think is the best? Why do you think that? Is it neccessarily the most expensive? Is price a good indication of a good baby car seat?
Most Car Seats Flunked Crash Test At 35 MPH
Consumer Reports did a crash test using several infant car seats. The results showed that most car seats failed disastrously in crashes with speeds as low as 35 mph. The seats came off their bases or twisted. In one case, a test dummy was thrown in mid air.Baby Trend Flex-Loc and Graco SnugRide were the only two that passed all the tests. Consumer Reports wants to see a recall on EvenFlo Discovery. How does knowing this make you feel? Would this make you change car seats?
Most infant car seats flunk crash test.
This has got to be bad. I see on Yahoo where most infant car seats "failed disastrously" in crashes at speeds as low as 35 mph.Seats are coming out of their bases or twisted in place. Of the 12 car seats tested Consumer Reports said it could only recommend 2 of them. Please check your child's seat, make sure its installed right and they fit in the seat good. It could save your child's life.
congratulations
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE KIDS WHO WERE BORN IN THE 1940's, 50's, 60's and 70's First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they carried us. They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a tin, and didn't get tested for diabetes. Then after that trauma, our baby cots were covered with bright coloured lead-based paints. We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking. As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags. Riding in the back of a van - loose - was always great fun. We drank water from the garden hosepipe and NOT from a bottle. We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this. We ate cakes, white bread and real butter and drank pop with sugar in it, but we weren't overweight because .... WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!! We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on. No one was able to reach us all day AND we were O.K. We would spend hours building our go-carts out of...
Should a 3 year old ride the school bus?
Maybe I am being a little too paranoid about this. My 3 year old son is in pre-k. All the other kids in his class rides the school bus. I take him to and from school. I have a 5 month old that can't get over a cold and I think it is from getting in and out of this freaky weather. It will be 65 degrees one day and 40 the next with the wind blowing. My mother suggested that he ride the bus. I told her that I did not believe in the saftey of school busses when it comes to little kids. The law is any kid that is 8 or 80 pounds should be in a car seat or a booster seat. My son is still in a car seat. He is 36 pounds.I just do not think that it is safe for him. Maybe I am just being an over protective mother. What do you guys think?

Car seats can restrict babys breathing
First it was a danger of leaving a child strapped in on a hot day. Now, a new zealand study warns that children left to sleep in car seats are at risk of oxygen deprivation, even if parents bring them indoors. The study investigated nine publicized life-threatening emergencies involving children left in the car seats. Based on careful reconstruction of each case, researchers concluded that infants who fall asleep in the car seats are at an increased risk when their heads slouch forward, restricting the airways. The study's author recommended redesigning car seats to reduce the risk of infants falling asleep in the forward-head posture. The key ingredients in all nine cases in the sample: The infants were left unattended for extended periods of time. When using the car seat, keep a close eye on the child, checking for changes, in their sleeping posture frequently.
