Join the Discussion About 65 Years of Little Golden Books:
Denys Arcand and his films. Any fans?
Born on June 25, 1941 in Deschambault, Quebec, Denys Arcand has made many films during his 65 years. His first film "Seul ou avec d'autres (Alone or With Others)" came out in 1962, when he was only 21 years old (my age!). After studying history at the University of Motnreal, he started working at the National Film Board of Canada, where he made documentaries. One of these documentaries, "On est au coton (we are in the cotton - not sure if this translation makes sense)" which he finished in 1970, was deemed to be so controversial that it did not come out until 1976. After another documentary on the recent history of Quebec ("Quebec: Duplessis et apres" -Quebec: Duplessis and after(1972)), he started focusing on fiction and produced many films that were well received. "Le declin de l'empire americain" (The decline of the american empire) (1986) brought him international acclaim, and "Les invasions barbares (the barbarian invasions)" (2003) won an Academy Award in 2004 for best foreign language film, along with more than 23 other festival awards, including Cannes. His next film, "L'Age des tenebres" (don't know how to translate) comes out next year. I...
politicians
Politicians in India are a very rare breed. They don't have any education, they are criminals and they are old(most of them). Don't you think that there has to be something to stop such people from contesting in elections? They should be at least a graduate, having no criminal records and the age limit should be maximum 65 years. Whay are your thoughts?
Bob Dylan - A Living Legend
Bob Dylan has always been one of my favorite recording artists. I always like to watch him being interviewed because he always uts down the news media who keep trying to anayze what he is saying or doing. All the while, all he wants to do is be himself without having to explain who or what he is. He is now the oldest person (65 years of age)to debut an album in the #1 spot by selling 192,000 copies of, "Modern Times", in the first week of its release. "Like a Rolling Stone".
for you dad
On Oct. 25, 2003 my father died suddenly from a heart attack. He was 65 years old. It's been hard on me. The only thing that I can recover is to talk to my father if he was with us in the room. This is what I had to say: "Dad, I really miss you. I love you. I know that we had a good relationship, and I know that you knew how I loved you. I just wish that I told you more often."Dad…..you held me as a baby You gave me a doll as my little sister Taught me to fly a pretty kite You loved the summer weather The sun, the warmth and fresh air I can see you sitting on the sofa you bought with the paper You always said "Hi baby" I can see you in my mind Always right there to help me, so loving and so kindMom told me that you have a theme song for me "You are the love of my life" The first time i heard it, I cried because the meaning of the lyrics You worked so hard, My dad so brave and strong One day you got retired, something was terribly wrong Mom died and you got sick And I developed a special bond with...
Cause of bladder cancer
The exact cause of bladder cancer is not known. Research is being done to try and identify a gene which may increase the risk of developing bladder cancer. Certainly cells of certain individuals seem to be more susceptible to malignant change than other individuals. Several potential carcinogens have been identified, and are believed to be excreted into the urine, where they act on the lining of the bladder, eventually causing tumor formation. The time period between exposure and cancer may be as long as 20 years.A risk factor is anything which may increase the chances of getting a cancer, but which does not directly cause it. Smoking: This is by far the biggest risk factor. Cigarette smokers have a two to fourfold increased risk of bladder cancer, compared to non-smokers. The risk persists for about 10 years after cessation of smoking. Pipe and cigar smokers are also at increased risk. Industrial chemicals: Exposure to certain chemicals, especially aromatic amines, has been linked with bladder cancer. These chemicals are used in the dye, rubber, textile, paint and printing industries. Chronic bladder inflammation: Recurrent infection, stones, and indwelling catheters...
A fear of Alzheimer's Disease
I am 65 years old. I have a good mind, a good education, a lot of good experiences in life. However, I find a history in my family of Alzheimer's Disease. My mother had it and her mother before her. What are my chances of getting it? What can I do about preventing it?I understood that taking antioxidant vitamins can help. I am now taking 1000 units of both vitamin C and vitamin E every day. I have done that now for nearly two years.Any suggestions would be appreciated. You can also print experiences you have had with Alzheimer's patients.
Early Retirement - Life Ideal.
Retirement is always thought of as the event at the end of our working life. Most part of the world, people retire at 55 years. Some others retire at 60 or 65 years. The latter are often high profile people in businesses and politics. Today, we should be aspiring not to follow the norm but do something different. With all the stress, pressure and demands of the present enviroment, one need to seriously look at early retirement. Early retirement to me means to release myself from all the pressures of the present society. Why should all these stress, pressures and demand that are dictating my life continue to do so until I am 55 years and above? Think about a longer natural lifespan if you choose to retire earlier. Many of us may say we are not prepared to do so because of mortgages, expenses, etc. These things do not stop even if you retire. We need to realign our life so that we can be in more control of our time, maybe be our own boss as an example. For me, my preparation to early retirement is to venture into the world of online business. What about you? Come and share your thoughts with all here.

I have decided to collect gift cards and throw them in a box so that when I'm 65 years old I will have a chronicled history of gift cards and their many different designs. What do you think?
